Gene expression data of two different strains of laying hens from a small group housing system

(Submitter supplied) Comparative analysis of gene expression profiles in newly developed housing systems is important to understand gene functions in chicken for adaptation and possible gene-environment interactions among layer lines. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the molecular processes that are different among the two layer lines Lohmann Selected Leghorn (LSL) and Lohmann Brown (LB) using whole genome RNA expression profiles. more...

Transcriptome profile of liver at different physiological stages in laying hens

(Submitter supplied) In this study, RNA-Seq technology was adopted to investigate the differences in expression profiles of the hepatic lipid metabolism-related genes and the associated pathways between juvenile and laying hens. RNA-Seq analysis was carried out to estimate total RNA harvested from the liver of juvenile hens (n = 3) and laying hens (n = 3). Compared with juvenile hens, 2574 differentially expressed (DE) genes (1487 down and 1087 up) with P ≤ 0.05 were obtained, and 955 of these genes were significantly DE (SDE) at a false discovery rate (FDR) of 0.05 and fold-change ≥ 2 in laying hens. more...

Single-base resolution DNA methylation profiles of two highly inbred chicken lines, Leghorn and Fayoumi, by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (MethylC-seq).

(Submitter supplied) Here we provided the first single-base resolution DNA methylatome in chicken lungs by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (MethylC-seq). In addition, two genetically distinct highly inbred chicken lines, Leghorn and Fayoumi, were used to examine how DNA methylation regulates mRNA gene expression between two lines. The methylation profile demonstrated that methylcytosines in the chicken were more likely to occur in CG dinucleotides than in non-CG sites. more...

Identification of differentially expressed genes between developing seeds of different soybean cultivars

(Submitter supplied) Soybean is a rich source of protein and oil and a primary feedstock for biodiesel production. Previous research on soybean indicated that protein, oil and yield are controlled quantitatively in soybean seeds. However, genetic mechanisms controlling seed composition and yield in soybean remain unknown. We used Affymetrix Soybean GeneChips® to identify genes that are differentially expressed between developing seeds of the Minsoy and Archer soybean varieties, which differ in seed weight, yield, protein content and oil content. more...

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

Gene expression oocyte quality in the hen

(Submitter supplied) The aim of this study was to assess the impact of oocyte competence on subsequent fertility. Based on knowledge already accessible in mammals and on bioinformatics tools including the chicken genome sequence, we focused on the expression of genes involved in the processes of fertilization and of early embryo development. The study was performed using two complementary approaches: a descriptive study of standard laying hens and then a differential study performed with hens from experimental lines expressing broad variations of achieved fertility (approximately 20 per cent). more...

Expression data from the abdominal aorta and abdominal aortic aneurysm

(Submitter supplied) Global gene expression information that can be used to identify pathways involved in the pathophysiology of disease. We used microarrays to identify which genes are expressed in either the abdominal aorta (control) or in abdominal aortic aneurysms (case), and also which genes may be differential between the two tissue states. Keywords: Characterization of expression in both diseased and non-diseased abdominal aortas.

CTL-OA-OP human IT PF Bone - CompuGen H19K microarray study

(Submitter supplied) Aims of study: (1) To identify systemic differences in osteoarthritic (OA) bone that contribute to OA pathogenesis. (2) Identify novel osteoporotic (OP) bone-related disease genes. Study involved comparison of trabecular bone extracted from the intertrochanteric (IT) region of the proximal femur (PF) from OA, OP and normal/control (CTL) individuals. Bone was obtained from OA and OP individuals at surgery for total hip replacement and from CTL individuals at autopsy. more...

Genome-wide transcriptome analysis of two maize inbred lines under drought stress during the seedling stage

(Submitter supplied) To understand the transcriptome changes during drought tolerance in maize, the drought-tolerant line Han21 and drought-sensitive line Ye478, which show substantial differences in drought tolerance at the seedling stage, were selected for this study. Using the GeneChip Maize Genome Arrays, we applied genome-wide gene expression analysis to the two genotypes under gradual drought stress and re-watering. more...

Analysis of severe feather pecking behavior in a high feather pecking selection line

(Submitter supplied) Even though feather pecking (FP) in laying hens has been extensively studied, a good solution to prevent chickens from this behavior under commercial circumstances has not been found. Selection against FP behavior is possible, but for a more effective selection across different populations, it is necessary to characterize the genetic mechanism associated with this behavior. In this study, we use a high FP selection line, which has been selected for 8 generations. more...

Novel insights into the host immune response of chicken Harderian gland tissue during Newcastle disease virus infection and heat treatment.

(Submitter supplied) Whole transcriptome analysis of two genetically distinctinct inbred chicken lines during NDV infection and heat stress. Background: Newcastle disease virus, in its most pathogenic form, threatens the livelihood of rural poultry farmers where there is a limited infrastructure and service for vaccinations to prevent outbreaks of the virus. Previously reported studies on the host response to Newcastle disease in chickens have not examined the disease under abiotic stressors, such as heat, which commonly experienced by chickens in regions such as Africa. more...

Gene expression profiling in heterophils with Salmonella enteritidis challenge using a chicken 44K Agilent microarray

(Submitter supplied) To determine the transcriptional response to Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (SE) infection, a newly developed chicken 44K Agilent array was used to analyze total RNA of heterophils from SE-resistant (line A) and SE–susceptible chickens (line B), treated with in vitro infection of SE (I) or non SE medium (N) for 1 hr. A dual-color balanced design was used to provide a direct comparison between SE-infected and non-infected groups (AI/AN, BI/BN) and between line A and line B (AN/BN, AI/BI). more...
