Increased pro-inflammatory phenotype of peripheral blood monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages among patients with excessive ethanol intake

(Submitter supplied) Excessive alcohol consumption adversely affects the immune system and triggers the activation of peripheral blood (PB) monocytes and tissue macrophages, contributing to alcohol- related organ damage. This study aimed to analyze the M1/M2 and inflammatory phenotypes of circulating monocytes and macrophage-derived monocytes (MDMs). This single-center cross- sectional study included 20 excessive alcohol drinkers (EADs) and 22 healthy controls. more...

miRNA expression profiling and identification of a miRNA regulator for muscle regeneration in the ischemic limb with proanthocyanidins treatment of adult mice

(Submitter supplied) Using the highly sensitive miRNA array, we screened 411 differentially expressed genes microRNAs in the ischemic muscle with proanthocyanidins treatment and we explored the functions of these miRNAs in the ischemic muslce by Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes annotation. The enrichment results indicated that these miRNAs mainly participated in the muscle regeneration process. Furthermore, the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry and dual luciferase reporter assay results showed that miR-133b-3p is a specific regulator of MKP1/ p38-MAPK signal axis, offering a novel therapeutic opportunity for limb ischemic injury.

Esrrb Regulates Specific Feed-Forward Loops to Transit from Pluripotency into Early Stages of Differentiation

(Submitter supplied) Characterization of pluripotent states, in which cells can both self-renew or differentiate, with the irreversible loss of pluripotency, are important research areas in developmental biology. Although microRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown to be crucial for embryonic stem (ES) self-renewal maintenance and cellular differentiation, the role of miRNAs integrated into gene regulatory networks and its dynamic changes during these state transitions remain elusive. more...

MicroRNA expression profiling of livers from the conditional doxycyline-regulatable c-Myc-driven liver tumor mouse model during tumor development and regression.

(Submitter supplied) Progressing and regressing liver tumor tissues (depending on the group) were subjected to miRNA profiling to identify the miRNA changes occuring during tumor development and regression. Conditional doxycyline-regulatable c-Myc-driven mice get liver tumors following doxycycline (Dox) withdrawal from their diet. When mice are re-administered Dox through their diet, tumors start to regress.

Differentially expressed microRNAs in the mouse liver with T3 treatment

(Submitter supplied) An improved mechanistic understanding of the thyroid hormone (TH) action on bile acid (BA) synthetic pathway, the major route for cholesterol elimination, will facilitate the identification of novel therapeutic targets for hypercholesterolemia. Here, we show that hepatic miR-378 is positively regulated by TH. Transient overexpression of miR-378 in the liver of mice reduces the serum cholesterol levels, which is accompanied with an upregulation of key enzymes involved in the intrahepatic conversion of cholesterol to BAs. more...

Comparative Analysis of Gammaherpesvirus Circular RNA

(Submitter supplied) Recent studies have identified circular RNAs (circRNAs) expressed from the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi’s sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) human DNA tu- mor viruses. To gain initial insights into the potential relevance of EBV circRNAs in virus biology and disease, we assessed the circRNAome of the interspecies homologue rhesus macaque lymphocryptovirus (rLCV) in a naturally occurring lymphoma from a simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-infected rhesus macaque. more...

Expression profiling of microRNAs in Bovine ovarian follicular development; comparative analyses between LHF and CL groups

(Submitter supplied) The study aimed to identify miRNAs expression profiles associated with growth and regression of dominant-size follicles in bovine. Follicles were collected from abattoir ovaries and their status (healthy/atretic) was assessed by measuring steroid levels and aromatase expression. Corpora lutea (CL) were collected from ovarian pairs correponding to days 1 to 4 of the oestrus cycle. Total RNA was isolated from whole follicles at different developmental stages and from CL. more...
